Oatland Island Wildlife Center
Walk through 160 acres of pristine maritime forest and encounter some 100 animals from 40+ species. The animals are exhibited in large natural habitats along a rustic trail through forest and marshlands. The "Wolf Wilderness" exhibit features gray wolves, armadillos, flying squirrels, screech owls and a selection of reptiles. Along the trail are cougars, bobcats, bison, alligators, red fox and birds of prey. Cows, sheep, goats and rabbits can be viewed in the "Georgia Farm" area. Located about halfway in between Historic Savannah and Tybee Island, Oatland Island is fun and educational for all ages.
We recommend families with young children consider visiting Oatland Island for Toddler Tuesday. The program is designed to introduce young children to the animals natural world. Toddlers and their adults will experience themed activities including live animal encounters, wildlife nature walks, storytelling, fun songs, interactive finger-plays, and creative crafts. We recommend bringing comfortable shoes, bug spray, and snacks as participants are welcome to walk the trails and visit all of Oatland’s animals after the program.
