Summertime: What to Expect From Tybee Island Weather
Summertime is one of the most popular times to visit Tybee Island, which makes sense because it’s the best time to take a dip in the Atlantic Ocean! The temperatures are the highest of the entire year from June to August, with July being the warmest on average. Did you know that the highest temperature ever recorded on Tybee Island was 107 degrees in June of 1986? Luckily, we haven’t experienced those record highs on Tybee Island since and the average is generally in the 80s, which is ideal for a relaxing day at the beach.

Experience Stand Up Paddleboarding
If you’ve never tried paddleboarding, summer vacation on Tybee Island is the perfect opportunity to do so! The water warms up nicely, so there’s no cold surprise waiting for you if you fall in. Get a fun workout while out on the calm waters, and maybe even catch a glimpse of some local wildlife, like dolphins, sea birds, and even otters! If you’re interested in learning, there are several instructors out there. East Coast Paddleboarding is the first and only dedicated stand-up paddleboard outfitter and paddleboard school in Savannah and Tybee Island. Perfect for the whole family! Established in 2009, they provide paddleboard and surf instruction, rentals and sales, paddleboard tours, and summer camps!

Great Tybee Island Weather Means Bike Rides!
One of the reasons that Tybee Island is such a cool beach town is because of how accessible everything is via bicycle. The island is just one big bike path! Leave those car keys at your vacation home and hop on a bicycle. Head over to Fat Tire Bikes and Tim’s Bike & Beach Gear for all of your rental needs. Adults, kids, tandems, trikes, you name it, they’ve got it! On two wheels, visitors can explore at their own pace with a relaxing ride along the 3 miles of beach space. Or, utilize the lanes marked “Bike Route” all over the island. With bikes, you never have to worry about parking again as the hustle and bustle of summer picks up! Check out Jaycee Park, a lovely 8.5-acre green space on the north end of the island. It features a meandering waterway, playground, and a disc golf course.

Grab A Rod & Reel
The Tybee Island Pier, Back River Fishing Pier, and Lazaretto Boat Ramp and Fishing Pier are great spots for dropping a line. Before casting out, make sure to get yourself a fishing license! The perfect place to enjoy the beach breeze! Then, stop by Seaweed’s Sno-Balls and Ice Cream next door to enjoy some cold air conditioning and sweets! Tybean Art and Coffee Bar on the north end serves crafted coffees made with Atlanta roaster Batdorf & Bronson coffees. Perfect spot for an iced coffee!

One of the best ways to cool off in the summer is by plunging into a pool! Lucky for you, Beachside Colony will have an all-new pool and pool deck by the beginning of summer! The project is expected to wrap at the end of May, so check it out!
