Let’s Learn – Emphasis

Emphasis in interior design involves creating a point of focus within a space. The focal point needs to be visually significant enough to catch and hold your attention. Focal points are the aspects of a space where the eye goes to first. Every room needs a point of Emphasis. This will anchor and pull the room together. Without a focal point, attention is scattered and can make a room feel messy and disorganized.

Bring it to Life

Arranging furniture around the focal point gives the space a sense of order. The rest of the design can work around it. Try draping a throw in a contrasting color over a chair or add a large painting or grouping of art to a bare wall. There are many ways to show Emphasis, below are a few examples of this technique in our vacation rental homes. Until next time, stay focused!
